El Paso woman convicted in Muslim-shame kidnap case

Norma Juárez Taha was found guilty of kidnapping in the abduction of a 20-year-old woman, who was accused of bringing shame to the Muslim community.

She was convicted on one count of kidnapping and one count of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. A jury of seven women and five men deliberated for more than four hours over two days before reaching a verdict.

Taha stared at the ground as the verdict was read.

After the jury was dismissed, Taha cried as she hugged family members and her lawyers. She was then taken back into custody by federal officers.
