Report: Farenthold considers resigning before term ends
Embattled U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Corpus Christi, is considering resigning before his term ends, Politico reported Tuesday, citing anonymous Republican sources.
The congressman has been under fire since Politico revealed in December that he settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with taxpayer dollars. Farenthold said at the time he would repay the $84,000, which he has not yet paid, and later announced he would not seek re-election.
Farentholds spokeswoman told the American-Statesman that he has no plans to resign at this time.

A vacant congressional seat cannot be filled by appointment, so the governor would have to call a special election to fill it, said Austin attorney Renea Hicks who is knowledgeable about election law. Because 2018 is an even-numbered year, only uniform election dates May 5 or Nov. 6 this year can be used to hold a special election, he said.
