WASHINGTON Three years before Blake Farenthold abruptly resigned his U.S. House seat in April, the Corpus Christi Republican tried to secure a federal contract for the chairman of the Calhoun Port Authority where he now works as a lobbyist.
The Victoria Advocate reported on the effort Sunday after suing the port authority in May to obtain Farenthold's hiring records.

In the deposition, he blamed political pressure from the "Me Too" movement for ending his political career, though when he announced his retirement, he had apologized for running an unprofessional office and for his fits of rage and other mistreatment of staff.
"I believe the public attention to the 'Me Too' movement created a political environment where it would be much more difficult for the members of the Ethics Committee to separate politics from the facts," he said at his deposition.
Farenthold said during the deposition that he did intend to repay the $84,000, until I was advised and researched on my own that it would be illegal to do that. HuffPost reported that its unclear why repayment would be illegal.
