"We're just getting started" - a post-election message from Texas LG candidate Mike Collier
I really wish we could have pushed him into the most powerful office in the state of Texas. We came closer than many expected, which bodes well for the future!

Well, this certainly isn't the speech I intended to make post-Election Night or the message I'd hoped to send after a hard-fought campaign. You were with me every step of the way. I would rather be your next Lieutenant Governor, but I'm delighted to be reunited with family and friends and inspired to keep up the fight.
Because last Tuesday was a great night for Texans! We elected some incredible folks who are sincere, hard-working problem-solvers. Dan Patrick and Greg Abbott may be raising champagne glasses, but their hands are shaking!
As for my race, I came within 5 points because we were on the right side of all the issues Texans cares about, like great public education, fair property taxes, expansion of Medicaid, protection for Texans with pre-existing conditions, and bringing an end to gerrymandering.
Dan Patrick told us that he's also for public education and lower property taxes. So, I intend to hold him accountable for the promises he made to win his election. I'm NOT going anywhere. Those promises MUST be kept. The fine people of Texas should have the government they deserve!
The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. By fighting to within 5 points, we took that step. It was a huge step, and we must stay in this fight!
I can't thank you enough for your support throughout this campaign and believing in me. To every single person who contributed, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also want to congratulate the great folks at the Texas Democratic Party. I saw 2014, and now 2018, and the difference is unbelievable.
Texas Dems worked their tails off, with skill and devotion, not because they are making money but because they are making a difference, and bottom line, it's the right thing to do! And that's why we elected such incredible people up and down the ballot throughout the state.
So, I hold my head high as all Texas Democrats should and everyone in our Capitol should know, we're just getting started!
