Romanian woman arrested with credit card skimmers in Portland, Texas
PORTLAND A traffic stop on U.S. Highway 181 last Monday seems to have put a crimp in a pair of young womens criminal activity, but not after stealing a large sum of money from San Patricio County residents.
Portland Chief of Police Mark Cory said that 17-year-old Francesca Cimpeanu and a 15-year-old passenger were stopped for a traffic violation last Monday. After the officers discovered Cimpeanu gave them a fake ID, they searched the vehicle and discovered two credit card skimming devices. Their initial investigation led them to a hotel room where two more were discovered.
The skimmers were being placed at gas station pumps and ATMs, and Cory said that he believes theyre finding more in Corpus Christi.
Apparently, she said they were in Portland, Odem, Corpus Christi and Sinton, he said. We have video of her putting them on and taking them off in Corpus.

It is believed that the family is involved with organized crime activity. The article noted that other local and federal agencies are also conducting a criminal investigation in Houston where they believe the organization is centered.
