Swastika scraped into gravel driveway of black church near Hallettsville
HALLETTSVILLE A swastika was scraped into the gravel driveway of a church in Lavaca County last month, scaring the members of the predominantly black parish, who were shocked to see the Nazi symbol etched along the pathway to their place of worship.
The swastika was carved into the driveway of the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church sometime around Jan. 25, said the churchs pastor, Rev. Dennis Herring.
Herring said the situation had been made additionally painful because he thought law enforcement wasnt communicating with him about the crime. No one from the Lavaca County Sheriffs Department has contacted him since he reported the crime 10 days ago, he said.
Ive received not a single call, he said Monday afternoon. If it had been somebody black who went to a white church and done that, (the investigation) would have started like that.
