After experiencing significant chest pain, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) was briefly hospitalized for a procedure to relieve a heart blockage, his office said Saturday.
Patricks wife, Jan Patrick, took him to the hospital Thursday evening, but initial tests found no problems.
The doctor decided to perform one last test, and a dangerous heart blockage was discovered. A stent was immediately put in place, said the statement from Patrick spokesman Alejandro Garcia.
Chest pain is a sign of reduced blood flow to the heart. A stent is a tube that is inserted into a major blood vessel to restore flow and reduce the chance of a heart attack, according to the American Heart Association.
