Memorial for mass shooting victims unveiled at El Paso Walmart
El Pasoans shed a few tears and prayed during the ceremony unveiling a memorial dedicated to the 22 lives taken during the Aug. 3 mass shooting at an East Side Walmart.
Families impacted by the shooting, Walmart employees and other Borderland residents attended the unveiling Saturday morning at the foot of the memorial. In all, about 100 gathered around the structure and withstood the chilly morning to remember the tragedy.
The memorial, called the "Grand Candela," was built to honor the victims. It shined through the night for the first time Friday and was welcomed by the public Saturday.
The "Grand Candela" is in the south part of the Walmart parking lot at 7101 Gateway West Blvd.
