Greg Abbott Closes Down Ballot Drop Off Offices To Rig Texas For Trump

The 538 average of polls in Texas shows what amounts to a statistical tie, as Trump holds a slim averaged lead 1.7 points. The state’s three most recent polls show that contest between Trump and Biden is somewhere between a tie and a 4 point race. Even a four-point Trump lead is within the margin of error, so Texas will not be an easy win for Trump on Election Day.

The electoral map has become so dire for Trump that Republicans like Greg Abbott are working overtime to try to suppress the vote and keep the state.

...are more likely than the 9-0 Republican Texas Supreme Court slapping down anything that helps Trump or hurts Democrats in general. They’ve ruled fear of covid does not qualify a voter for an absentee ballot, and limiting the ‘no reason’ mail-in ballot to people 65 and up is not age discrimination against younger voters (more likely to be Democrats, doncha know). The court is an entirely political animal, without exception. The Rs have had the run of the state for the last 25 years, and they have not been sitting on their hands

You CAN claim a medical condition as a reason, and by HIPAA law the state cannot ask you what that condition is - which could be a workaround.

To my knowledge, the office has really not bothered with this due to the high number of applications. I suspect the office would not pursue this unless there is a significant and obvious uptick in disability applications.

If applying for an absentee ballot for reasons of travelling or living out of state, one must be out of the area for the entire in person voting period which runs from October 13 to November 3.

FYI all absentee/mail-in ballots are counted and ready to go by poll closing on Nov 3. We start the process when ballots start arriving.
