Biden, Trump supporters rally outside Texas Capitol
Punctuated by frequent blasts from car horns and air horns, a cheering crowd formed outside the Texas Capitol soon after Democrat Joe Biden was projected as the winner of the 2020 presidential race.
They danced to “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang, broke into mass singing with Queen’s “We Are the Champions” and shouted back and forth with a large group of supporters for President Donald Trump who also gathered there Saturday.
Police estimated 1,000 to 1,500 people had arrived by early afternoon, with Trump supporters generally staying on the north side of 11th Street and Biden backers on the south — a divide that was enforced by a line of officers later in the afternoon.
Tempers flared at times, but there were no major incidents during the day, though there was at least one arrest.
