South Texas high school football player who attacked referee apologizes

The UIL state executive committee suspended Edinburg High senior football player Emmanuel Duron from all extracurricular activities for the rest of the school year after he blindsided a referee during a game on Dec. 3.

“I’d like to say I’m sorry for what happened to my coaches and to my family and to the UIL,” Duron said in his only statement on Monday. He had an attorney with him who told the committee that Duron would not make any other comments.

In addition, the UIL placed Edinburg High football coach J.J. Leija on probation through the 2021-22 school year, and all the school’s UIL programs were placed on a two-year probation through 2022-23. Leija was also given a public reprimand.

Any other incidents during the probationary period could result in more severe sanctions.

and he was allowed to participate in the U.I.L. state wrestling competition three days later. It appears that the U.I.L. wanted to make a point since the school district wasn't addressing the behavioral problems adequately.

I didn't see that in the article.

I saw the video, and it was pathetic and terrifying.
