I got my first Moderna vaccine back on January 16. The City of Houston opened 2600 slots which were filled i 16 minutes. I was one of 6000 people who got a vaccine shot on January 16 at Minute Maid field (the Houston baseball stadium). The process was messy that day with a line that went around the ball park.
Today, the City of Houston opened 5000 vaccine slots where were filled in less than hour

I am happy to be vaccinated and the last member of my family has a slot in Austin on Monday for his first shot

(14,750 posts)They almost always have covid appt's available throught texas. Yes, texas is a big place, so probably the more rural areas are the ones with appt's available.
Still I found it interesting that every new england state (where cvs began and is everywhere) is almost uniformly booked out, but texas almost always has appt's.
I used that to my advantage to get ahead in the process by first choosing texas, then clicking to create an appt (which only appears if there are locations with appts available), and then switching to mass later in the process. That way I could just rapid fire refresh and see appts before they are reflected on the main page.
Not line jumping since I'm eligible, but it saved a lot of frustration. And the MA state vax system never even said boo. I got my first pfizer shot yesterday and have another scheduled in 3 weeks.
Anyway, try cvs in addition to city websites. Private pharmacies seem to have their own supply.

(14,750 posts)I ended up in a line snaking around the store, and they had 2 people doing shots. It seemed like the shots only took a minute or two and then they grabbed the next person in line. It was non-stop.
Very quick and efficient. Plus I got some shopping done which I almost never do.
