Beto O'Rourke addresses voter suppression, gun control at Q&A press conference
Former Texas Congressman Beto ORourke spoke about voting rights, gun control and whether or not he plans to run for governor at a press conference in the Capitol in downtown Austin Saturday afternoon after a rally against voter suppression on the steps of the capitol building.
On whether he plans to run for governor in 2022, ORourke said he will assess his next move when he finishes teaching his courses at the University of Texas and Texas State University.
Im going to think about where I can play the most positive role for Texas, whether thats running for office or supporting those who do run for office, he said. Ill think of any and all ways that I can be helpful.
ORourke also spoke against the permitless carry bill, which would allow holstered handguns to be carried in public, openly or concealed, without a state-issued permit or license to carry. House Bill 1927 was recently passed by the state senate and is heading back to the Texas House for review.
