Former Smithville Mayor Scott Saunders charged with sexual assault, indecency with child
Former Smithville Mayor Scott Saunders is facing multiple charges of sexual assault and indecency with a child, according to city officials and Bastrop County court records.
Saunders was arrested and released from the Bastrop County Jail on May 10. His bail was set at $300,000 for the three charges, according to court documents.
Saunders, 35, is charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred in 2010 and one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact that allegedly happened in 2015, according to Bastrop County court records. All charges are second-degree felonies.
Neither Saunders nor his attorney, Justin Fohn, has returned multiple calls seeking comment over the past several days.
