..... and Texas' status as the home of... and model for.. the kind of school "reform" pushed by billionaire foundations like Gates, Walmart, the Koch Bros. ( and foolishly embraced by Obama) on the ONE HAND , and the dumbing down and politicization of the Texas curriculum as described in OP on the OTHER HAND.

It's hard to imagine adequately-paid, highly credentialed, career-oriented, professional, UNIONIZED educators letting this go by.

I know they'd never be able to get *me* to go along with it.

Hmmmm.

4. State of Texas allows untrained, uncertified teachers to teach in the classroom even though there

are Texas Certified Teachers who have applied for a vacancy. The person who the Principal and School Board put in the classroom, can be extremely political. IMP, they could care less if a very excellent teacher has applied. They just have to conduct a few interviews over a 5 day period.

& have NO idea what this is all about. The curriculum involves only what is state tested & I can assure you that content in the linked article is not tested. I would also like to say that the rumor that critical thinking skills are not being taught in Texas is nonsense. Those skills have always been emphasized even before all this state testing came on the scene. No union here.

5. Untrained and uncertified teachers can extend the agenda of the Principal and School Board.

The administration rates each teacher twice a year and makes a written report based on what the community wants its children taught.

All professional teachers are taught that a community committee draws up the objectives for its school district's curriculum. If that curriculum is accepted by the State education agency, then it is taught in the classroom. An administrator can write that the state approved curriculum has be taught and the teacher is accepted and recommended to teach the next school year.

Also, the administration can get rid of a teacher for just teaching the state approved curriculum by falsifying the teaching and claiming it is not sufficient. The excellent teacher just resigns and goes else where. Most teachers teach about 2 to 5 years before having to move just becomes out of the question. I am writing about Texas. By the way, the taxpayers have gone to a huge expense to train a teacher at a College of Education, a Universities. What is happening to SAT and ACT scores in Texas? Plummeting.
