Democrat Doc Shelby announces run for U.S. House
GREENVILLE, Texas Democrat Doc Shelby announced Wednesday his bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Pat Fallon in Texas' 4th Congressional District, which includes Bowie County, next year.
Shelby, vice chair of the Hunt County Democratic Party, will formally announce his candidacy during an event July 30 in Greenville, according to a news release.
Shelby is a resident of Royse City who for more than 30 years worked for Frito Lay, "where he built and maintained new route sales in rural regions of Southeast Oklahoma and Northeast Texas," the release stated.
Born and raised in the panhandle town of Bovina, Shelby was a standout football player in high school and at McMurray College, where he earned all-conference honors. For 25 years, he was a part-time official in high school sports.
