Crackpot fraudently claims that Texas will save $2 billion with vouchers

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A school vouchers advocate says Texas' public education system could save up to $2 billion annually if the state allows families to use public funding on private schooling.

Joseph Bast is president of the conservative think tank the Heartland Institute. He testified Tuesday at the school finance trial.

But Bast also said no Texas government entity agreed with his cost-saving analysis. Officials instead estimate letting students leave public schools would actually cost those schools money in the short term.

Bast also acknowledged he holds no degrees in economics, though he considers himself an economist.

3. Vouchers are a bad idea

It appears that this session is going to be devoted to vouchers and other crazy ideas

4. It is privatization to the business community. Every Child is entitled to a Free, Appropriate

Public Education under many Federal education programs and federal public laws. Let's remember the Texas Constitution and public education also.

How will private schools handle the Texas Education Codes that are already in law. Are they exempt from the laws? Perhaps parents of public education students could bring a class action law suite against a business destroying the public school. Perhaps these private businesses should pay the bills for the remaining public schools since the same money going to both once allowed for a free public education. Just think, no more Friday night football.
