AUSTIN -- An Eanes school district parent assaulted a teacher and ripped her face mask, according to an email that Superintendent Tom Leonard sent to the community on Tuesday.
The incident occurred after several weeks of tension and debate in the district over mask rules and mandates.
A parent physically assaulted a teacher by ripping a mask off her face, others yelling at a teacher to take off her mask because they could not understand what the teacher was saying while her face was covered, Leonards email said. This type of behavior will not be tolerated in Eanes ISD. Our staff are on the front lines of this pandemic; lets give them some space and grace. Please, I am asking everyone to be kind. ... Do not fight mask wars in our schools.
Eanes, like other school districts in Travis County, has been caught in a legal tug of war between local and state officials over masks in schools. The district originally stated it would not require masks but would encourage them, a position that was in line with Gov. Greg Abbotts order banning mask requirements in schools.

(3,583 posts)File criminal charges and later after adjudication of the case, then file civil charges.
Working for the school district does not eliminate your rights as a citizen, or maybe in Texas it does.
