Related: About this forumWe don't owe the unvaccinated priority on hospital care
By Michael A. Smith, Editor -- The Galveston County Daily NewsPeople have a right to reject vaccination against COVID-19; no question.
The question is how much responsibility does society have to prioritize health care for people whove made that risky personal decision.
That question will become more and more relevant if more and more people become seriously ill and demand more and more of limited health services.
It also highlights a strange paradox.
Among the main things driving the militant anti-vax bloc is a fear and loathing of the big evils big government, big pharma, big tech, big this, big that, big the other thing all of which, the theory argues, act in concert to beguile, befuddle and bamboozle the gullible into being vaccinated.

(5,126 posts)That it may be time to stop 'keeping those thoughts to myself'. This 'high road' that we seem to want to travel may be nicer at first, but if it doesn't lead anywhere... you see my point. But, I agree as well. If I were to continue to step in front of cars as they passed, one would think I would be appraised for competency... yet this is not happening to those who spout unprovable, non-scientific reasoning as to why they won't get the damn vaccine. (Spoiler alert: regardless of their stated motives, it is still all about 'owning the libs/smart people/society'... what a great excuse for making this last longer than it should as well as endangering innocents and those who legitimately cannot get the vaccine. But, no evaluations for competency on such people... interesting.)

(5,126 posts)Their 'mistreatment' does not (normally) endanger others around them. Their mistreatment does not create a country-wide crisis. I think this situation is a little bit different. Please remember that these same people are willing to risk all children in the name of a little green piece of paper, as well as actively cheering for the deaths of any and all 'librul' Democrats from this illness.

I have questions and so should everyone... there are legitimate reasons that someone cannot get the vaccination
but... as a citizen of this Country we have responsibilities towards each other... we have responsibilities to help protect each other from unnecessary harm... we follow rules of the road... we require vaccinations to enter school... we prosecute people with HIV that knowingly infect others... we have hate crime laws... we share burdens by taxation and others means... etc...
