Police are investigating the death of Thomas Boone Pickens IV, the 21-year-old grandson of billionaire oilman T. Boone Pickens, as a possible drug overdose, two sources familiar with the investigation told NBC 5.
At least one witness told investigators that Pickens, a student at Texas Christian University, took the prescription drug Xanax and later injected heroin in the hours before he died, the sources said.
Pickens was pronounced dead Tuesday morning at Baylor All Saints Medical Center, where a friend brought him after saying he wouldn't wake up. He already may have been dead for several hours, the sources added.
Pickens had been staying at off-campus condos located in the 1800 block of Rogers Road, Fort Worth police Cpl. Tracey Knight said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will determine his cause of death, she added.

(11,304 posts)He is married to a wonderful stay at home mother and they have 3 children. The oldest is a girl who is 14 and is in high school (I think). Anyway she was telling my sister over the weekend that she doesn't hang around allot of the kids in her fancy neighborhood because all the do is get together at a friends house and do drugs. She isn't into that scene. This kills me because republicans always have this idea that it is only the black and poor doing drugs. They live in that bubble. Funny thing is my nephew and his wife are democrats. Even though he is a financial advisor but he remembers where he came from.

(23,720 posts)and kids are taking it to get high. I had a close call with my own son one night. Some girl he knows gave it to him. He took 2 bars. He was home when he did it. And I don't know- but for some reason, something told me to go to his room and check on him. I found him sleeping/unconscious. I noticed that he was barely breathing and wouldn't wake up when I called his name. I ended up smacking him in the face several times in order to wake him up all the while telling him to wake up and asking him what he took.
I don't know whether or not if I hadn't checked on him, if his heart would have eventually stopped beating (as I under stand it, xanax slows the heart down) but it was an episode that scared the hell out of me. He had 10 more bars in his drawer and I took them and threw them away. He was mad at me at first because I took his drugs and made him stay awake until he was coherent and when I did let him go back to sleep, I sat with him all night to make sure he continued to breath. We had a long talk the next day and he no longer sees the young lady that provided him with this medication. It is some serious shit if one chooses to misuse it.
