Matthew McConaughey says politics is 'a bag of rats' in interview weighing run for Texas governor

Matthew McConaughey says politics is 'a bag of rats' in interview weighing run for Texas governor

Actor Matthew McConaughey is apparently not interested in running for Texas governor unless he thinks the role would allow him to truly make a difference.

On Thursday, the Texas-born actor went on the New York Times Opinion's Sway podcast, an interview show hosted by Kara Swisher, and explained what he meant by "measuring" a possible run for governor next year, saying he is still learning about politics from mentors — who he refrained from naming — and is considering how useful he would be in the position.

"Is that a place to make real change or is it a place where right now it's a fixed game, you go in there, you just put on a bunch of band-aids, in four years you walk out and they rip them off and you're gone?" the actor told Swisher. "I'm not interested in that."

The self-proclaimed "folk-singing philosopher, poet-statesman" went on to call politics a "broken business" when it comes to political ideologies and said he fears a civil war if politicians remain on a path of "preservation of party" while not truly considering their constituents. McConaughey also reasoned that he could have have more influence in an informal role.

It should have said, "Dazed and Confused Actor is still Dazed and Confused".....

Would he even know how to fill out the paperwork?

Poet-statesman?

So uninformed and full of himself he doesn't even realize how ridiculous he sounds.

This is not a serious candidate. This is an egotistical actor and political dilettante. He knows nothing about running for office, and in the unlikely event that he wouldn't fall on his nose in the process, and actually win, he'll be a joke in office. I'd half expect this dope to resign and go take an acting job, as soon as he gets bored or stressed.

Also, if you think all politics is "a bag of rats," that's a good sign you should not get into the game.

yeah, no; fuck off bongo man.

I was involved in the film scene here in Austin as a cinematographer back in the mid to late 90's. it was very much a familial small network of people who knew each other and hung out at all the same places.

the things I have seen and heard about various people in the "Austin, Texas scene" I could write a book. (that includes wanna-be's, well knowns and up and coming names)

I will leave it at that.
