Patrols increased outside Houston-area synagogues amid hostage situation in North Texas

Officials in Houston are monitoring the ongoing hostage situation at a synagogue outside Dallas and, as a precaution, are taking steps to protect local places of worship.
A man took hostages Saturday during services at a synagogue in Colleyville where the suspect could be heard ranting in a livestream and demanding the release of a Pakistani neuroscientist who was convicted of trying to kill U.S. Army officers in Afghanistan.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a Tweet officers are doing extra patrols to protect worship halls in Houston.
“We’re following the hostage situation that is taking place at a synagogue in Colleyville, Texas and praying for everyone’s safety,” he said. “As a precaution, we increased patrols around synagogues and places of worship.”
