(7,447 posts)It's just Beto quite frankly isn't the guy. Coming out so strong for gun control was a political act of suicide in Texas.
Great guy, would make a great governor but there's no way it happens barring one heckuva black swan event.

Have to understand that Hispanics are not one block. Many are conservative, many are anti immigration in Texas. We can't target them as a single group

(42,564 posts)a few points higher in the Republican primary, though. Dont know if thats still the case, but its conceivable Abbott has to go through a runoff in the primary. That could bring him down a bit before the general.

(14,559 posts)teens and 20s. If there are rolling blackouts or even some brown outs Abbott will be in deep shit. The MF'er killed more than 400 Texans last February for the sake of gas company profits.
Try not to let anyone forget that.

(9,998 posts)There are plenty of Losers in TX, that will FREEZE in February, and then vote for ANYBODY BUT THE DEMOCRAT in November.
It matters not how many die as a result of Abbott's incompetence. We're talking about TX here.
I'm honestly about done with the insane idea that TX is going to turn blue. EVER.
Perhaps it's time for the Democratic Party to abandon states like TX & FL, where they waste MILLIONS, in a futile effort. Put that money to work in places with a chance of being saved.

(9,998 posts)We're only 1 year removed from the last debacle. That, along with the fine Covid response, does not appear to have damaged Abbott in the slightest. Or perhaps it's just that Beto is not a strong enough candidate.
My guess is that Abbott will win by double digits, regardless of what happens this year. The party would be wise to just let Texas be Texas, rather than throwing away a bunch of money that could be spent elsewhere on viable candidates with a chance to win.

(14,559 posts)It's really great to get such strong support as we do our best to eek out some small victory.
Great to have such support, really appreciate it.
If you're in some safe blue state SoCal just stay there. If you're here in Texas show some support, we need it.

(2,648 posts)If someone as good as Beto can lose an election to something like a cruz, then the odds of Texas turning blue go down the drain.
If one wants to win an election in Texas, merely put an R next to their name. Bingo! You're in.
Do I despise republicans? Let me count the billions of ways.

(7,011 posts)I mean, I had a sense since his F-bombs on the campaign trail. He's not Joe Biden. Can't really pull it off without sounding like some bro in a bar.
Consider that the last Dem senator in Texas was Anne Richards. I think Texas needs a Dem that has some old school chops. Whatever that is.
