Paxton investigates GoFundMe for ending donations to Canadian truckers protesting vaccine mandates

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said Wednesday that he has launched an investigation into GoFundMe's decision to halt a fundraising effort for Canadian truckers who are protesting COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

The "Freedom Convoy" protests have snarled traffic in Canada's capital of Ottawa and at several U.S. border crossings, capturing the imagination of conservative Republicans in the United States who oppose vaccine mandates, including former President Donald Trump.

GoFundMe drew GOP ire when it announced last week that it had shut down donations for the truckers, citing "law enforcement reports of violence" and other illegal activity surrounding the protests that began last month.

The crowd-funding service initially said it would refund donations upon request and donate the remaining money to charities chosen by the convoy organizers. GoFundMe modified its response Saturday, saying it will issue automatic refunds to donors.
