Republic of Texas now wants its day in court

McQUEENEY — If the day comes when you stand for the Texas National Anthem before a ballgame, you can thank several former Soviet satellite republics, your Texas twang and a bunch of good old boys (and a couple of women) who have been working to rewrite American history for 20 years.

A national anthem means Texas will be its own country, and the folks behind today's Republic of Texas movement will have convinced someone somewhere that Texas never was part of the United States.

Their plan, surprisingly, doesn't rely on secession, which is the mistaken belief the Lone Star State has the constitutional right to sever ties with the U.S. government and reclaim its national sovereignty.

“We don't need to secede,” said Bob Wilson, a Republic of Texas senator. “We never were part of the United States.”

The modern Texians claim the state of Texas exists because of electoral and diplomatic fraud.

It's that I have friends who live there! It is a totally crazy pants state but one of my favorite people just relocated to a suburb of Dallas to be closer to her family. How am I supposed to wish they would blow themselves up when I like Texans????

It's really frustrating!

I live in Texas and am amazed by some of the most imbecilic statements of these people. Texas begged for years to be annexed into the Union then seceded. After the war, we were brought back into the Union under Carpet Bag rule (Yankee Republican Thieves) and now these yahoos want that back.

I've driven through your area a few times several years ago so you have my sympathy living near the imbeciles.

If it weren't so tragically stupid, I would laugh a lot harder. Right after last year's election, I saw a group of Texans gathered at a restaurant to discuss ways in which Texas could become independent again. It was on CBS11. All I could think was that these morons will try to find any justification to return to their romanticized ABC (ass backwards and country) prior republic. Give me a break. I say let's round them up and send them to Nuevo Laredo.

they keep trying all sorts of ways to push their agenda of stupidity.

But since it's stupid, it usually gets dismissed out of hand anytime it's presented to a judge.

They do not live in the real world and believe that they have the right to enforce their own "laws" by any means possible.
