Interview: Rep. Greg Casar: White House apology not enough after Austin teen's deportation - CBS Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — In this latest Connect to Congress, CBS Austin's Jahmal Kennedy sat down for an exclusive interview with Austin-area Congressman Greg Casar on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

U.S. Congressman Greg Casar says a White House apology is not enough after Austin teen Annie Lucia Lopez-Belloza was mistakenly detained and deported to Honduras, despite a judge’s emergency order requiring she remain in the U.S. for 72 hours. Casar says Lopez-Belloza, who was raised nearly her entire life in Austin, was detained while traveling home for Thanksgiving and that he is leading efforts in Congress to bring her back.
