Harris County gears up for primary election day with 280 vote centers
HOUSTON Harris County election officials and volunteers spent the final hours before primary election day fielding voter questions and running training sessions, as more than 346,000 residents have already cast early ballots ahead of Tuesday's vote.
At the Harris County election services building, staff prepared for a primary in which voters will be asked to choose one party ballot after showing a valid ID. Separate voting machines will be available for Democratic and Republican ballots. Voters will decide nominees for races including U.S. Senate and governor. Winners advance to the November ballot, unless no candidate clears 50% of the vote, which would trigger a runoff.
Harris County Clerk and Chief Election Official Teneshia Hudspeth described the weekend push to get poll workers ready.
"Over the weekend leading up until election day, those many vote centers election judges were showing up to get their equipment, to get all their paperwork, and prepared to ask questions, and then we have pods of training going on here at the facility just to kind of get that last-minute refresher."
