🚨 You need to know

Details are emerging about the murder of Alexandria resident Nasrat Ahmad Yar, a 31-year-old Alexandria resident and father of four who was killed in D.C. on Monday.

Yar was killed early Monday morning while finishing a late shift on rideshare app Lyft. WUSA9 reported that Yar was an interpreter for U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan and escaped with his family after the fall of the Afghan government to the Taliban in 2021.

Yar had been working twelve-hour shifts every day as the sole provider for his wife and four children, who age from 13 years to 16 months, WUSA9 reported. Yar was also sending money home to his family in Afghanistan.

Surveillance video of the scene shows four people running from the scene and captured an exchange between them, with one saying “You killed him,” and another responding, “He was reaching bro.”

A GoFundMe set up by the Heart of an Ace nonprofit has raised over $78,000 as of Friday morning.

I just fled across the river from DC to VA because of the ridiculous amount of violent crime.

On a related note, plenty of rideshare drivers don't want to go into DC. Lyft drivers kept declining my ride to Dupont circle, which isn't known for violence. The ones who do, tend to be desperate immigrants who need the money.

It’s so hard to stop violence. I think if I were an immigrant, I’d have to pick somewhere besides the United States.

My daughter married a Canadian citizen. They seem to be a lot kinder to immigrants there.
