Virtual Railfan’s live train cameras in Ashland, Virginia, are stationed at the Ashland Amtrak Station, bringing you three unique views of CSX’s North End Subdivision and a bustling passenger stop. Hosted by Hometown Realty, the Hanover Visitors Center, and the Town of Ashland, these cameras — one PTZ and two fixed — capture the action along a historic rail corridor just 16 miles north of Richmond. The PTZ camera sweeps across the tracks from the station, showcasing CSX freight and Amtrak passenger trains, while a fixed camera focuses on the platform, and a third highlights the lively downtown area.

Originally built by the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad (RF&P) in the 1830s, this line became part of CSX and now sees approximately 20 daily freight trains — intermodal, coal, and manifest. Amtrak operates 20 daily passenger trains through Ashland, including the Northeast Regional and select long-distance services. Ashland’s historic station, built in 1923, serves as a key passenger hub, blending rail history with small-town charm.
