Thoughts on Powell, Douglas

a comment in the Culpeper Star-Exponent, not much info but someone's noticed, and there's another Dem challenging another repug, in the 5th District. Can't find the ARTICLE that's referenced, tho!

'I read with interest your article, “Dems target Cantor, Rigell” in the Culpeper Star-Exponent Aug. 1. The more I read, the more interested I became in the opponent to Eric Cantor for the 7th Congressional District. Try as I might, I could not locate his name, nor did the reference to “retired, decorated 30-year Army officer and attorney…” help me, or any of your other readers.

His name is E. Wayne Powell and in addition to the accolades above, he is a distinguished Virginian and a worthy opponent to carry the fight to Eric Cantor, an acolyte of Grover Norquist.

I would also like to point out that the Democratic candidate for the 5th District House seat is retired USAF General John Douglas, an extraordinarily well qualified candidate who knows how to get things done. More to the point, the 5th District includes Rappahannock County in which you enjoy considerable readership.'

I'm in the fifth district (Bedford County) and I think General Douglass will give Robert Hurt problems in the election.

Should we be doing things to help General Douglass? We haven't heard of him, I think.

Looks like we should say a word or two about Powell to the DCCC, eh?

'Jesse Ferguson, communications director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Hirschbiel’s race is the organization’s top priority in Virginia.

"We’re committed to the race," said Ferguson, who has extensive knowledge of the state from his days as the founding director of Virginia21, a successful legislative lobbying and advocacy group for college-age Virginians.

The DCCC has already reserved $415,000 worth of television advertising time in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach media markets for Hirschbiel.

A wealthy businessman whose early investments in companies such as computer maker Dell paid off well, Hirschbiel can not only write generous checks to his own campaign, he can hold his own against Rigell in fundraising.'

Should we post a new thread, for DUers to get DCCC's attention?

I may need to attend an event of his.

I drool at any legitimate chance to unseat Cantor. The amount of power he has is really scary.
