No criminal charges against 3 accused in Liberty University sexual assault case

No criminal charges will be brought against two Liberty University student-athletes and one former student accused of sexual assault in September.

Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Doucette said Wednesday “the evidence is insufficient to go forward.”

On Sept. 12, Liberty University issued a news release revealing a sexual assault was reported July 13. The school said the reported assault occurred in August 2015 and identified three men connected to the assault: Kyle Carrington, a freshman from Toms River, New Jersey; Cameron Jackson, a sophomore from Houston; and former student Avery James.

The release said Carrington and Jackson were not allowed to play in the first two games of the football season because of the alleged incident and were suspended from the team pending the outcome of any appeal through the school’s internal grievance process.

What is sick? That no charges were filed, in spite of the fact that there was no evidence?
