Virginias only Muslim-American state lawmaker resigned from his Democratic leadership post Friday and called for a massive overhaul in the party to reconnect with working-class voters after Donald Trumps presidential victory.
Del. Sam Rasoul of Roanoke, a Democratic enclave in Southwest Virginia amid a sea of rural counties that voted overwhelmingly for Trump, stepped down from his position as secretary of the House of Delegates Democratic Caucus, a minor leadership role he had held since last December.

(3,256 posts)I was thinking that during the whole election cycle the word Trump sucked up all the air out of the room. The entire media gave him top headlines, everyday, especially the Democratic leaning ones. It really came down to nothing but negatives. To me, the Nov. 9th headline could have read "Woman loses Mud Wrestling Match with Pig." I also think that all those high paid advisers and the DNC need a long cruise on a tiny raft in shark filled waters. The worst campaign in my 7 decades. The only real message they tried to sell was "experience". which went over like a lead pole vaulter when people want change. Well, they got their change and now they are going to lose all their change.

(16,076 posts)A generic term, much like "traditional American Values" or "sincere religious belief"...different meanings to different people!
To me it means all Americans, to someone living in a rural area it could mean white and Christian...
