A robbery suspect wrote a note to a Chesapeake bank demanding money. His problem: it was on his starter check, feds say.


NORFOLK -- The bank robbery seemed to go well.

The culprit walked into a Chesapeake Wells Fargo in January, passed a note to a teller and walked out with $2,701, according to court documents.

If only he hadn’t written the note on one of his starter checks.

Rashad D. Harris, 26, was charged last month in U.S. District Court in Norfolk in connection with six robberies, including the Jan. 14 heist at the Wells Fargo at 3936 Portsmouth Blvd.

Assistant U.S. Attorney William Muhr declined to comment on the case, as did Harris’ public defender, Rodolfo Cejas II.
