Four people were injured in an explosion Friday morning at a gas station in Rockbridge County.

The incident happened about 9:50 a.m. at the South River Market at the intersection of Old Buena Vista Road and South River Road, several miles north of Buena Vista, according to Virginia State Police.

At the request of the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office, state police are investigating the cause of the blast.

“At this time it does not appear suspicious in nature,” Sgt. Rick Garletts of the state police said in an email.

Four adults were taken to Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital for injuries sustained in the explosion.

Police and rescue officials were still working to determine if anyone else was in the building.
