Williamsburg Office of Elections offers curbside absentee voting for May 5 election
The coronavirus pandemic has halted many events, but voting officials in Williamsburg are determined not to let the virus infect its upcoming City Council election.
With city buildings closed to the public at least through March 30, the Office of Elections has begun offering curbside absentee voting in advance of the May 5 election. The drive-up service, available weekdays and one Saturday, May 2, is in addition to the mail-in ballots that voting officials still prefer.
While the regular May 5 election is still scheduled to proceed at the moment, all absentee voting requests will be approved due to the circumstances. Applicants can choose my disability or illness as a qualifying reason.
Voters can go online both to register (with an April 13 deadline) and request an absentee ballot by mail (with an April 28 deadline). Those without internet access also can call the Office of Elections to request a ballot or register to vote curbside.
Mailed ballots arrive with pre-addressed return envelopes and must be received back by the Office of Elections by 7 p.m. May 5.
