Lynnwood light rail construction looms

SEATTLE — The main construction contracts for building light rail to Lynnwood from Northgate are likely to get the go-ahead when the Sound Transit Board of Directors meets Thursday.

The board was prepared to review two contracts totalling more than $1.5 billion. The agency’s governing board was scheduled to meet at 1:30 p.m.

The work would build out guideways along the I-5 corridor, where four future stations are planned: one each in in Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace, and two more in Shoreline. Crews have been busy this summer clearing trees and grading along the route.

Sound Transit expects to start light-rail service on the Lynnwood Link Extension by 2024.
