Duties include acting as a liaison to develop and maintain relationships, participating in meetings, speaking on the Member’s behalf, corresponding with constituency groups, monitoring important community issues for the Congressman, and working with other district staff on local projects.
Prior experience working for Congress or community relations is preferred. Strong writing and verbal skills, an understanding of Congress and current federal policy issues are also desired. A valid Washington State Driver’s License is required.

Instructors must have:
•An Extensive knowledge on either organizing and activism or extensive knowledge of a particular topic or theme related to militarization or other forms of oppression.
•A creative idea for a course and substantial knowledge of that subject area through work or educational experience. (See list of potential course ideas.)
•Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new platforms. (Previous knowledge of Moodle is preferred, but not necessary.)
•The ability to meet deadlines for turning in an application, syllabus and biography. They must also be able to build and teach the course within the required time frame and offer at least one live-time interaction.
•The ability to produce a five-week syllabus that will increase the skills and topical understanding of activists in their course.
•The ability to facilitate online courses on a semi-regular basis and provide thoughtful feedback and punctual interaction with students.
•A willingness and ability to market their course to listserves and potential students outside of our existing marketing scope.

Awards Banquet Manager / Administrative Associate
Washington Public Campaigns (WPC)
WPC is seeking an applicant to coordinate and manage WPC's Sixth Annual Awards Banquet, June 16th. Position available April 9th - and will be open until filled. The position will end June 30th, following the banquet.
However, subject to availability of funding and acceptable work performance, the position may be extended as an administrative associate position at WPC, responsible for membership promotion, administrative support for WPC's advocacy work, including workshops, communications, fund raising support, and similar work.
Initially this is a part-time position, averaging 24 hours per week. The position requires working from home, with a drivers license, travel capability, and attendance at occasional meetings in and around Seattle, WA, including occasional evenings or weekends as may be needed to work with volunteers.
Additional hours may be required and compensated in the weeks immediately prior to the banquet event.
If funding is available and the position continues after the June event as an administrative associate at WPC, the responsibilities and duties will include membership promotion, processing and services, support for advocacy efforts including workshops, speaker presentations and events, support for communications including broadcast emails, website updates and social media, and support for citizen lobbying and advocacy efforts.
Qualifications

Printer helpful. Bachelors degree and minimum of one-year experience in an administrative capacity with a non-profit or business organization. Familiarity with advocacy work or issue or candidate campaigns highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience and competency in event and project management, working with and supervising volunteers, and completing detailed tasks to completion and on schedule.
Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications and database systems. Experience with advocacy and social networking software and current communications technologies desirable.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
Ability to manage time, set priorities and work independently without supervision.
Responsibilities
The Awards Banquet Manager will be responsible for coordinating and staffing an event planning committee, and for arranging and managing most of the program and logistical details for the awards banquet (assisted by volunteers), including volunteer recruitment and coordination, coordination with the event venue (South Seattle Community College Brockey Center), meal planning and bar, event promotion, table hosting, reservations and check-in, dessert auction, some assistance in fund raising, and assistance with the evening program, awards and speakers.

Founder Campus Election Engagement Project, author Soul of a Citizen and The Impossible Will Take a Little While
Campus Election Engagement Project: Position Description – Half-Time Major Donor Fundraiser
The Campus Election Engagement Project (CEEP) works to help America's colleges and universities get as many of their 20 million students as possible to register, volunteer in campaigns, educate themselves on issues and candidates, and turn out at the polls. Our non-partisan engagement project had a major impact in 2008 and 2012 and is now addressing major off-year elections, beginning this year in Virginia. We’re currently recruiting an Associate National Development Officer, who will work with CEEP’s founder, Soul of a Citizen author Paul Loeb and National Director Jonathan Romm to raise money for the project.
CEEP Summary: Founded in 2008, CEEP works through academic networks that schools know and trust, like the state Campus Compact affiliates, to compile and distribute the most effective practices to get their students involved in elections. Our outreach staffers then follow up by phone to coach the schools in implementing them. In 2008, CEEP engaged over 500 college campuses that enrolled nearly 3 million undergraduates. In 2012, we worked with over 750 campuses in 26 states, enrolling over 5.5 million students. According to follow-up surveys, 74% of the schools CEEP approached used at least some of our resources or ideas, and 49% used many of them. Our project has a huge multiplier effect because we work with administrators, faculty, and staff whose salaries are covered by their schools, and help them collaborate to engage their students. CEEP focuses on students both because they historically vote at lower rates than other groups—particularly in non-presidential elections, where four out of five tend to stay home—and because when they do participate, their habits of involvement can last a lifetime. Job Summary: CEEP founder Paul Loeb has had excellent success identifying potential new major donors from various lists, mailing them descriptive materials, and following up by phone. You would conduct comparable outreach from lists we’d provide, of similar people who we haven’t yet approached. Since these people usually don’t know our project before we approach them, are inundated with requests, and often haven’t read what we’ve sent, you’re going to have to be good to engage them. But once you do start a conversation and give them a sense of our project, they tend to really respond. You can then email them more information and offer them the option of talking with project founder Paul Loeb. Many will end up making tax-deductible contributions.
The donors we connect with through this process are smart and accomplished people who will ask hard questions. If you give them good answers, they’ll appreciate the power of our project’s approach, and respond. (About a third of the potential major donors who we actually spoke with ended up contributing in 2012, often for $5,000 or more) But you’ll need to get and hold their attention, while conveying our project’s unique strengths.
Required Skill-set:
--Ability to understand CEEP’s approach, to convey its power and vision, and to sum up concisely why our project matters.
--Excellent interpersonal outreach skills. Your first 15-60 seconds on the phone are critical.
--Fundraising background preferable but we’d consider other related skills and experience.
--Knowledge of the current political landscape. Knowledge of higher education a plus.
--Thoughtful enough to get into serious conversations with potential donors after you’ve summed up our key talking points. We’re looking for someone they’ll enjoy talking with, who isn’t just reading a script.
--Major league persistence—will need to avoid being dispirited by endless answering machines and multiple rejections, yet be sensitive enough to respect the decisions of those who don’t choose to fund us.

(51,907 posts)The Washington Coalition to Amend the Constitution (WAmend) was formed to put the State of Washington on record as calling for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to overturn Citizens United and other U.S. Supreme Court rulings that have led to unlimited and undisclosed money in politics and undue influence of corporations and wealthy individuals in elections and public policies. WAmend is seeking a committed individual to act as campaign manager to gather sufficient signatures between January and end of June, 2014 to qualify the initiative for the general election ballot in November, 2014 and to follow the signature gathering with a campaign to pass the ballot measure. The person chosen for this position will work with staff and volunteers statewide with minimal supervision and must have excellent communications skills and the ability to work with a wide diversity of people and communities. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
● Manages all aspects of the campaign to pass a statewide initiative calling for a constitutional amendment to be sponsored by members of Congress from Washington State declaring that corporations do not have the same constitutional rights as humans, money is not speech and all campaign contributions should be regulated and disclosed.
● The Campaign Manager will be responsible for filing the initiative and securing the signatures necessary to qualify the initiative for the 2014 general election ballot (approximately 360,000 signatures of which 245,000 must be signatures of registered voters in Washington State. The signature campaign will start in January, 2014 and extend through June, 2014. The campaign to pass the initiative will follow.
● This position is an independent contractor position with fees to be negotiated. Contractor is solely responsible for all federal and state taxes. Expenses will be paid as authorized by campaign steering committee.
● Job will be located in Seattle, with some statewide travel necessary.
● The Campaign Manager reports to the campaign committee.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATES:
● 3 years or more of political campaign management experience that includes primary responsibility for fundraising.
● Demonstrated commitment to reforming the political system and ability to articulate the need to pass a constitutional amendment.
● Experience leading successful ballot measure campaigns including planning and implementing a strategy to engage and train an adequate number of volunteers to collect signatures, to educate voters and to turnout the vote when initiative is approved for the ballot.
● Experience managing/organizing in communities of color, faith, labor and business.
● A proven track record in coalition building and coordination, grass roots or field campaign organizing, financial oversight, internal and external messaging and public speaking.
● Experience working with public affairs, communications and research consultants/firms.

● Demonstrated knowledge of campaign finance and budgeting.
● General knowledge of laws and regulations relating to campaign finance and campaign operations in Washington State.
● Ability to commit for the duration of the campaign effort.
● Experience with voter identification, micro targeting, data usage and management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, implement and execute a statewide initiative campaign.
● Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the campaign, including fundraising, communications/media, grassroots/field work, coalition outreach and maintenance, and internal campaign administration.
● Develop and implement a budget and strategy to raise adequate funds to support the campaign.

● Respond to inquiries from constituents, coalition partners and elected officials regarding the campaign.

● Oversee management of website. social media, and list and database development, management and usage.
● Oversee aggressive earned media campaign.
● Develop and implement reporting structures and produce reports for campaign leadership.
● Manage all aspects of fiduciary oversight, legal administration and adherence to reporting requirements.

Seattle Young People's Project (SYPP) is a youth-led, adult-supported, social justice organization. We support youth-led projects in working for tangible social change.
