Kitsap County sees four negative coronavirus tests while 14 await results
BREMERTON - The Kitsap Public Health District said Saturday that four potential coronavirus cases have returned with negative results, while 14 tests are still pending.
The pending tests only include ones submitted to the state public health lab in Shoreline, in King County. The Kitsap Public Health District isn't involved in facilitating testing at the University of Washington; "but we are receiving results from all labs reporting," according to Tad Sooter, Kitsap Public Health District spokesman.
Meanwhile, the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department Friday confirmed its first positive test for COVID-19, a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions who was experiencing pneumonia. He is in stable condition at St. Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor, where he was checked in on March 4. The man, who did not travel outside the country, is the first on the Kitsap Peninsula to test positive for COVID-19.
"Public health works every day to identify, track, and follow up on cases of potential disease exposure to protect peoples health, said Dr. Anthony Chen, director of health at the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The COVID-19 virus is new, but the local, state and federal public health response is not, Chen said.
