Port of Seattle cancels two first cruise ship visits of 2020 season
The first two scheduled sailings of Seattle's 2020 cruise ship season have been canceled due to a coronavirus outbreak on one of the ships and the public health crisis in the Puget Sound region, officials announced Wednesday.
Port of Seattle officials said they reached an agreement with Princess Cruises, and Celebrity Cruises to cancel the first two sailings, which were scheduled for April 1 and April 5th.
This region is in a public health emergency and we will postpone the start of cruise season by at least two weeks, Port of Seattle Commission President Peter Steinbrueck said in a statement. The health, safety, and wellbeing of our residents is our top priority.
The port, cruise lines, first responders, and elected local leaders said they will continue to evaluate the public health landscape in the region as they determine an appropriate start to the cruise season.
