'Senior hour' gives at-risk shoppers more time and space

EVERETT — It’s the new happy hour for seniors.

Stores are designating special shopping time slots for seniors and those at high risk for infection.

They can get their milk, eggs and wine in a less crowded setting during “senior hour” at supermarkets. Pregnant women also are invited.

The catch: You have to get up early. And drinks are not included.

Dollar General is dedicating the first hour of operations for the shopping needs of seniors. The chain, and many others, are closing earlier than usual to sanitize and restock.

Is closing their Service Departments. Meat, Deli, Salad bar so they can concentrate on getting needed supplies. Deli meats will be sliced at night. Put in packages.

They are hiring 10,000.

Unfortunately, they don’t have them here in Texas. Walmart’s here are emptying out.

It was amazing how much fresh produce and meats they had. Bread and TP were gone. The other local is Meijer based in Michigan. Produce, meat cases were almost empty.

I have not been to Walmart. I buy when things are on sale so am in pretty good shape.

People are frightened and want to shop while the store still has supplies. If we'd had competent leadership from the top from the start of this crisis, maybe there wouldn't be so much panic. I just saw a timeline video of the virus. It was in the States in January & that orange piece of shit did nothing but deny and blame, until a few days ago. I hope every repub senator gets the virus & dies. They could have removed him weeks ago. Okay, not Mitt. He saved his ass with that one yes vote.

Not our usual store (we normally use either the one in South Seattle or the one in Shoreline- both are about the same distance from home), but we had to run down there to another business for a part for the microwave. First time we've been to that store, and it seemed to be much larger than most other Costco stores we've been in.

No lines at the entrance, parking was easy and close, the aisles were not clogged up with carts in the middle, and there was only one person ahead of us at the checkout (when's the last time that has ever happened at a Costco?). They also had a big sign outside with continually updated lists of what was and was not available - a nice touch. If they didn't have what you were there for, you didn't even have to go in. There were signs all over with a graphic encouraging 6' social distancing.

One of the fastest Costco trips we've ever made - we got in and out of there very quickly and got everything we needed.
