Poulsbo clinic moving ahead with COVID-19 testing space - whether it gets approval or not
POULSBO An upper floor of Dr. Stephen Speidels naturopathic clinic in Poulsbo is mostly unused. The clinic is moving ahead with plans to turn that space into a battleground against the coronavirus, where testing can happen, isolated from other patients.
But the clinic has run into what it sees as red tape in getting approvals for the project at a time when it wants to move quickly. Poulsbo city officials say theyre ready to help move the project forward but need to make sure the space is safe. The clinic is moving ahead anyway.
Speidels practice has already begun testing patients in its existing space off 10th Avenue, dressing them up in masks and gloves out in the parking lot and walking them into a room designated for testing, Stephens wife Ruth Speidel said. It works for now, but the clinic plans to move testing into an unused space on a floor upstairs.
Patients come in on the first floor to do their business, virus patients come up to the second floor, and we do all the virus work so the two never meet, Ruth said. Its the safest way to do it.
