$27 Million Raised To Help Those Struggling Under COVID-19

SEATTLE, WA — A group of community organizers have announced the launch of their new charity effort, #allinseattle, with a pledge to give 27 million dollars to help residents who are struggling amid the coronavirus outbreak. The group says that money will be going to a wide swath of efforts, from buying prepared meals for families in need to supporting the University of Washington Medicine's Emergency Response Fund. Organizers say their goal is to fund only low-overhead charities and projects that are working directly with people suffering under the outbreak.

Organizers say they raised the $27 million in just three days after accepting donations, and they're hopeful that the Seattle community will continue to be so generous in their quest to get support to those who need it most. The donations have come from over 200 sources, including businesses, individual residents and other community advocacy groups.

#allinseattle says they've already begun talks with local leaders like the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Challenge Seattle and city leaders to find out how their donations can do the most good. According to their website, the group is focusing on four major causes: food security, supporting communities and workers, supporting small businesses, and housing and rental assistance.
