Experts try to understand rural spike in positive COVID-19 tests

Gov. Jay Inslee on Monday raised questions about some alarming new COVID-19 test results coming out of a handful of rural counties.

The statewide average for people who test positive for the coronavirus is 7.5 percent, but the governor pointed to several other counties with large positive rates, including:

Skagit County, where 21 percent of tests came back positive;

Adams County at 19 percent;

Island County at 17 percent;

Benton County at 16 percent;

Franklin County at 15 percent.

People continue to go to church, and organized church events. This despite a lot of states saying not to. Other states say nothing.

Seems like a great idea. Dozens or hundreds of people, shoulder to shoulder, singing and chanting.

CD found viable virus particles 17 days after cruise ship evacuated. Who knows how long it lives on or in products?

Most cargo from China takes weeks to arrive by sea, usually 4-6 depending on locations/destination.

been in contact elsewhere? That's what we are likely seeing in Montana, or going to see with the vast number of out-of-towners who showed up at the beginning of the month.

By the County names,it appears to be a certain Religious Group. Their last Sunday Meeting apparantly had a friend they were sharing.

Adams County, way over in the SE quadrant of the state but the ones along the shore of Puget sound, have a lot of other factors and perhaps smaller populations which can skew the comparison using percentage.

interior States. That is when all these Austerity based Communities get clobbered. Hearing about the fallout already from our Kids who live in semi rural areas,and it is not good. Clinics and Hospitals were closed down of the last decade because of pure economics of scale. When it takes a hour or more to the ER,you got issues.

And some of those so called State Roads are just upgraded Farm Roads with a stripe down the middle.

But yes, it's a mostly two lane environment, one of the things that keeps the riffraff out, that and long winters. Hell, where I live, if you aren't on the highway or interstate or in an actual town, it's dirt roads. And I don't mind it a bit, I moved to this area a long time ago to get away from large populations. Big roads bring big crowds. As for being able to get to a hospital or medical care facility in a timely fashion, I really don't mind so much as knowing that the out-of-towners will have the place filled to capacity before I get there is what bothers me. And most of them pay little to nothing in taxes and don't vote here.

I don't see your point as incorrect, it's just that it goes far beyond that when you factor in the exotic population who don't know how to take a shit in the woods and expect that help is across the street if they fuck up being stupid in a place which requires paying attention to your surroundings because they can kill you... is what I hear absolutely NOBODY taking into consideration, well except in the NE states where it's been noted and most of them are from that region. Out here in the west, it's a far bigger problem with people coming from everywhere. Shit, we might as well be on the Gulf coast.

Like the folks who go to National Parks and expect the rules to bend for them "just this once" because they expect special treatment since they are on vacation and don't recognize that "just this once" happens thousands of time a day with them... A myopic view of reality that self centered pleasure seekers engage in is more a problem than the local rednecks.

and visitors whom have zero clue you are suppose to leave the friggin phone in the car and enjoy a bit of nature and wish they would just shut up and listen.

Last time we were at the South Rim. This lady,dressed to the nines,wearing hooker heels,started walking down the trail to the bottom of the Canyon. You would have appreciated the Picture. Hour latter the Rangers had to rescue her and her boy friend who had made their way about two thirds of the way down. Still remember all the bitching about the path should be paved and have hand rails and why don't they have some type of elevator.

Idiots going off the boardwalks at Yellowstone,taxpayers own this and I can do what I want. Sad to say,we all probably seen it or heard it .

Totally forgot you don't hang in Montana and was referring to a SW area .

live in Montana (a typo?) but all the parks are seeing a new generation of clueless tourists and daredevil types with social media egging them on... like idiots wading in Grand Prismatic Hot Spring and the toilet lickers of late.

It's so destructive to what they allegedly came to see, it's far beyond the general realm of understanding with this new generation of tourists.

She and her Boyfriend or what ever,drove up as close as they could to the fenced off area in a Lambo from one of the Rental places in Vegas. My Spouse was just flabbergasted as to what was about to happen.

Happen to pull a kid out of a Hot pool at Yellowstone the last time we were there. Lucky he had on high top tennis shoes,the burn was from shoe top to just below the knees. Thankfully he was in shock,I and another fellow picked him up headed to the lodge while some one else called emergency. Never found out how the kid came out.

Same day a idiot from Chicago was trying to get a close up of Female Elk and her Calf. That sucker is damn lucky to be alive,that cow tossed his ass a good thirty feet and if it not been for someone distracting that cow,he would have been ground into the back ground.

of this pandemic as "a little flu".

Another factor: the GOP pro-death cult, including Dan Patrick, Glenn Beck and the president until recently, who were advocating human sacrifice to appease their false idol, the economy.

It is beyond tragic since rural hospitals have been hemorrhaging money for years now. It is especially bad in red states.

Many of our rural hospitals have closed in financial penury. Vulture capitalists have turned many into zombie hospitals.

Always remember the bulk of this president's supporters are also known to him and his cronies as "marks" and "suckers". Don't blame the victim.
Our rural areas likely will pay an unbelievably high price for trusting this president.

Blame the perpetrators.

Blame the conman-in-chief, Donald Trump, and his co-conspirators in the GOP.

Blame the GOP's death cult seeking to throw millions of us on the pyre to appease Mammon.

Don't blame the victims. They are going to need our help desperately. Summon all of your innate decency and be kind if you can.

if the rural area there is anything like the rural areas here, maybe it has to do with the political stripe of the inhabitants.
