"See it-Snap it-Send it" campaign asks Washington to report pandemic price gougers
The Washington Attorney General's office has launched a campaign it calls "See it-Snap it-Send it", asking help from sharp-eyed consumers to take cameras or cell phones into their own hands, to help spot and report price gouging during a time of pandemic.
If you see price gouging, AG Bob Ferguson would like you to snap a photo, or take a screenshot, and send it his way, along with a complaint detailing the gouge in question. The way to report is here.
Washington state has no statute on the books that targets those jacking up prices in times of crisis. Ferguson has pledged to ask the Legislature to correct the omission. In the meantime, however, the AG's office can deploy the state's Consumer Protection Act, used against such big targets as Comcast, but also the Richland florist who refused to sell flowers for the wedding of a same-sex couple. (The Arlene's Flowers case is still before the courts.)
The AG's office has received more than 400 complaints since the beginning of March, when Washington was the first state experiencing deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic.
