Republicans sue to stop 'Stay Home, Stay Healthy' order; Inslee says 'dangerous'
Several conservative Republican state House members, saying threat from the coronavirus has "faded," on Tuesday filed a federal lawsuit in Pierce County to stop Gov. Jay Inslee's stay-at-home order, wanting a full reopening of Washington's economy.
A second suit, brought in Lewis County by GOP gubernatorial candidate Tim Eyman and a supporting cast, seeks to send the state's public school pupils back to school.
Attorney Joel Ard, representing plaintiffs in Tacoma, declared, "There's not an emergency in Washington anymore. That's actually great news and it's ridiculous that the Governor is continuing over the course he is on. This is not a disease that affects the youth of this state. No one under 20 has died from it. It doesn't even really affect people under 60 unless they're really sick."
The suit alleges that the governor has failed to show that deaths would come from any group "other than the most vulnerable population -- sick, elderly people in long term care," if the order is lifted.
