Seattle sees drastic drop in job openings amid coronavirus pandemic, report says
Job openings in Seattle and across the country declined significantly in April as the region remained under a stay-at-home order that forced thousands of businesses to shut their doors.
A new Glassdoor report found Seattle saw a nearly 35% drop month over month in the number of job openings from 79,946 at the end of April to 122,811 in March. Washington as a whole saw a similar decline in the number of job openings.
Across the country, job openings on Glassdoor went down 27.7% month over month from March. Nearly one-quarter of employers removed all job openings and another 42% of employers reduced job openings available, the report found.
"Simply put, this decline in job openings would mean a third of the gain in job openings since the end of the Great Recession in 2009 have been wiped out in the last two months," the report said.
