Boeing CEO says Renton 737 Max plant will reopen this month
Boeing President and CEO David Calhoun says he's confident the jet maker's Renton factory, which assembles the 737 Max aircraft, will reopen sometime in May after a closure of almost four months.
"The airplane's in great shape. It's in good stead," he told Fox global markets editor Maria Bartiromo. "I'm confident we will start our line on the Max again this month."
Production of the 737 Max, once Boeing's best selling jet, was halted in Renton since late January amid a 13-month global safety grounding of the aircraft following two crashes that killed 346 people.
An upbeat Calhoun shared the factory restart news during a 10-minute Fox Business interview.
But the Boeing boss also cautioned that the facility where more than 12,000 Boeing workers used to make 52 jets a month on three shifts won't ramp up to those historic past production levels for years.
