Study: Seattle has 7th most small businesses per capita

Small businesses in Seattle and across the country are continuing to suffer as the novel coronavirus pandemic has forced thousands to temporarily shut down to slow the spread of the virus.

The Seattle area may have been hit especially hard.

According to a new study, the Seattle metro area has the seventh most small businesses per capita among large metro areas. The study -- from Construction Coverage -- found the Seattle metro area has more than 100,000 small businesses and about 2.55 small businesses per 100 residents. More than 19,000 of those businesses are retail, accommodation and food services.

Metro areas with the greatest number of small businesses per capita, according to the study, include Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro area and the New York-Newark-Jersey City metro area.
