Amazon confirms it won't renew lease for Seattle office building

Amazon will not renew its lease for eight floors of office space in the 2201 Westlake building.

The Business Journal on Wednesday reported the space was listed for lease on CoStar, and on Friday Amazon said it plans to vacate the building by December. The company started leasing the space in 2010.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic caused people to start working remotely, Amazon had about 1,000 employees in the human resources department working at 2201 Westlake, which is at the intersection of Westlake Avenue and Denny Way.

The company didn't say if the city of Seattle's new corporate payroll tax had anything to do with its decision.

away the big businesses that employ thousands of its citizens. They might try to work with Amazon rather than try to punish it.
