Light rail work to close northbound I-5 in Mountlake Terrace

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Northbound lanes of I-5 are to be closed overnight this weekend for light rail work.

Crews working on the Lynnwood Link extension are scheduled to close the lanes of I-5 from Highway 104 to 220th Street SW in Mountlake Terrace for several hours at a time, starting late Friday.

The planned hours for the closures are:

• 11 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday;

• 11 p.m. Saturday through 6:30 a.m. Sunday;

• And 11 p.m. Sunday through 4:30 a.m. Monday.

The closure lets them build falsework for span supports across I-5 in Mountlake Terrace for the Sound Transit light rail alignment to cross over the highway. Falsework is a temporary steel column system between and outside the girders used to support the construction of the concrete deck, on top of which the light rail trains will travel.
